US Urges India and Pakistan To De-Escalate Tensions Following Kashmir Attack - AAMNEWSHUB.COM

The United States asked to avoid a broader regional conflict between Pakistan and India and hoped to maintain peace in the region.

A deadly attack sparks global concerns:

The Pahalgam attack escalated the tension between Pakistan and India. Indian government and media claimed that Pakistan was responsible for Pehalgam’s deadly attack. India closed the border, violated the Indus Water Treaty and evacuated Pakistan’s diplomats and nationals from the country without giving any evidence. Pakistan, on the other hand, dismissed the allegations and asked for a neutral investigation approach.

The US urges restraint from both sides:

The US  has always stood with India. It always asked for peace in the region. The US Vice President was asked about the Pak-India conflict in a recent interview. He responded that India should investigate the matter without raising global concerns. He said, “We hope that India reacts carefully and avoids starting a broader conflict. He also emphasized that if any elements within Pakistan are involved, the country should cooperate with India to eliminate terrorist threats.”

The US support for India:

The United States has always stood with India. It did not directly blame Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack. However, it condemned the attack and expressed its deep condolences to India. The US has always been hesitant about China’s economic prosperity in the region. India has been its key partner in diminishing China’s influence. The US ties with Pakistan have thus reduced after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Diplomatic efforts to avoid war:

The US State Department spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, said that both nations should actively work to investigate the matter. She, however, asked to maintain peace in the region. She stated, “The US stands firmly with India against terrorism.” She also said that Trump had called Modi and expressed the US support with India through thick and thin. However, she also stressed the importance of dialogue to maintain long-term peace in South Asia.

UN urges de-escalation:

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss the rising tension in South Asia. The ambassador stressed that Pakistan has always struggled to spread peace in the region. The United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric clarified that Guterres had already offered his assistance to both India and Pakistan during separate calls with their leaders. However, he said the UN chief would only consider traveling to the region if both sides accept his role in mediation.
