The US Congressman, Mr. Bergman, asked for the release of the former premier Imran Khan after he visited Islamabad, Pakistan.

Jack Bergman visited Islamabad and met civilian and military leadership. After coming back from Islamabad, he wrote, “After my Pakistan visit, engaging with leaders & communities there & in the US, I reaffirm my call for Imran Khan’s release.” He emphasised that the relationship between the United States and Pakistan should be grounded in shared values such as democracy, human rights, and prosperity.

A bipartisan delegation visits Pakistan:

Mr. Bergman and Democratic representatives, including Thomas Suozzi and Jonathan Jackson, visited Pakistan. The delegation was part of high-level discussions aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations. After the delegation’s visit, Mr. Bergman passed a statement pointing toward the release of Imran Khan.

Focused on security and cooperation:

While visiting Pakistan, the delegation met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir. They discussed regional security and defense cooperation. The delegation also met the Federal Minister for Planning and Development. They discussed economic initiatives, educational exchange, and strategies to tackle climate challenges together.

Imran Khan not discussed during official meetings:

While the delegation was in Islamabad, it did not discuss Imran Khan’s release. Neither official press releases nor statements from Pakistani officials mentioned Imran Khan or his legal situation. The delegation did not discuss the matter of the release of Imran Khan. It shows that the statement by Bergman is solely his viewpoint rather than the congressional delegation’s agenda.
