Abbas Urges Hamas To Leave Control As Gaza Crisis Deepens

Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas urged Hamas to escape Israel’s prisoners to halt Israel’s attack on Gaza.
Abbas wants PA to take charge of Gaza:
Israel has always said that the assault on Gaza happens due to Hamas’ illegal capture of its people. To answer Israel’s allegation, the Palestinian President called out Hamas. Mahmood Abbas urged Hamas to free Israel’s prisoners and hand over weapons to the Palestinian Authority (PA). As per Abbas, Hamas’ step back can stop Israel from continuing its assault on Gaza. He stated, “Hamas must turn into a political party and let the Palestinian Authority take responsibility for Gaza.”
Longstanding tensions between Fatah and Hamas:
Fatah and Hamas are the two top rivals of each other. They have always blamed each other for the unrest in Gaza. Abbas has previously pushed for Hamas to come under the Palestinian Authority’s control. Many Arab and Western powers think the Palestinian Authority is the best alternative to Hamas in managing Gaza affairs. However, Israel refuses to accept any future PA role in the region.

Abbas expected to announce successor soon:
After the demise of Yasser Arafat in 2004, Abbas led the Palestinian Authority. Since then, he has never mentioned the successor’s name for years. Now, due to the continuous outer pressure, it is expected that Abbas will soon announce the successor’s name. Western allies and Gulf States refused the Arab’s proposal of creating a temporary committee to manage Gaza affairs. Th Western bodies asked for transparency to sustain peace in the region.
Israel’s relentless strikes continue:
The recent Israel’s attack on the school worsened the situation. A witness said, “The blast caused a huge fire. Several bodies were burned beyond recognition.” Around 2.4 million people have been displaced due to Israel’s relentless strikes, and within 2 years, 51,000 people lost their precious lives.
Urgent plea from UK, France, and Germany:
Israel has blocked humanitarian aid in Gaza. The ongoing assaults and the continuous aid blockage forced the foreign ministers of Britain, France, and Germany to speak against Israel’s actions. In a joint statement by them, they asked for the reopening of humanitarian aid in Gaza. The statement said, “We are seeing an acute risk of starvation, deadly diseases, and more deaths. Blocking aid is unacceptable.” The Foreign Ministers criticized Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz. Katz has declared to stop humanitarian aid in Gaza. His stance ignited global concern.
UN warns of food crisis:
The United Nations warned the world about the famine or scarcity of food in Gaza. The UN claimed that food, medicine, and clean water are all running dangerously low. The community kitchens meant to provide food to the displaced Gaza people are now shutting down. The UN asked for the urgency in changing the policies.
