Quetta Reports First Congo Virus Fatality Of 2025

The 1st Congo virus-related death in Quetta in 2025 occurred when an (18-year-old) patient died of the disease at “Fatima Jinnah General and Chest Hospital” in Quetta, according to hospital sources.
The young man, from the town of Pishin, was taken to the hospital on the 29th of March in serious condition and shifted to the isolation ward after his infection of Congo virus had been verified.
It is important to note that advice for the early detection and management of CCHF was released by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is crucial to monitor the situation closely and take action to stop the spread of CCHF after a high illness transmission rate.

It clarified that “tick-borne Nairovirus” is the cause of CCHF. This virus, which is spread by “tick bites or contact with contaminated blood or tissues” during and just after slaughter, is carried by animals including “cattle, goats, sheep, and hares”.
Meanwhile, Balochistan had earlier reported a different Congo virus case, bringing the total number of cases this year to (41).
According to medical officials, “Sharafuddin, (25-years-old) was brought to Fatima Jinnah Hospital in a serious condition.” Following testing, the individual tested positive for Congo virus, according to hospital authorities. The current situation of Congo virus fever in Balochistan is not the first time it has happened. According to health authorities, the sickness claimed the lives of dozens of people in the “late 1980s and early 1990s”.
