On Sunday 23rd of march 2025, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stated that a comprehensive and successful plan to lower power rates was being developed and will soon be publicized.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan highlighted that the government’s strategy and intentions surrounding solar energy remained unchanged while chairing a review meeting on issues relevant to the Power Division.

In addition the Prime Minister addressed the gathering and declared, “The government’s top priority is to encourage the use of environmentally friendly energy.  There has been an unchanged in the policy of the government and goals with respect to solar energy.”

The Prime Minister gave the relevant agencies instructions to provide facts and numbers in order to clear up any confusion the public may have had about the solarization strategy.

He gave the directive to speed up the electricity distribution companies’ (DISCOs’) privatization process. He advised the attendees that “all permitted and other problems regarding power plants should be settled as soon as possible.”

Shehbaz claimed that following the power sector changes, the general population will see a greater reduction in electricity rates. “A package is currently being created under an entire and efficient plan for lowering electricity tariffs, which will be presented soon.” While for a comprehensive plan related to the energy sector, the prime minister gave the order to further enhance cooperation across the Petroleum, Water Resources, and Power Divisions.
