Chinese Young Football Player In Spain Dies After Brain Injury

On Thursday 20th of march 2025, a potential Chinese teenage footballer died after sustaining a major brain injury during training in Spain, his club reported.
Following an accident during a training session between the “Beijing men’s U-20 squad and the Spanish team RC Alcobendas in Madrid last month, Guo Jiaxuan went into a coma”.
After being deemed “brain dead” by a nearby hospital, he was sent to Beijing Tiantan Hospital in China for more treatment. Footballer of China Guo Jiaxuan, who was a member of Beijing Guoan’s Under-19 team, died on Wednesday 19th march night, the club announced on social media.

“A football-loving youngster has passed away. The club said, “May Jiaxuan rest in peace.” It also stated, “The club will keep doing everything in its power to appropriately manage the aftermath and give Guo Jiaxuan’s family all possible help and support they require.”
Guo, who was a member of the FC Bayern World Squad project, which was managed by Germany’s biggest club, and who was chosen for China’s U-17 squad in 2023, passed just one day before turning 19.
Footballer’s Family wants Facts And Fairness
“He’ll permanently be frozen on the last day of his 18th year,” Guo’s brother wrote beside a black-and-white photo of the young player on social media. Guo’s condition identified “no progress,” he wrote a month ago, and the family was “slowly accepting facts.”
In an online statement released on Thursday, the Beijing Football Association stated that it avoided “on a regular sharing information” since the incident in order to “avoid unnecessary people affecting health-related work, and taking seriously the feelings of family members.”
Whereas the details of Guo’s injury are still unknown, and his family has criticized the Beijing FA for failing to get in touch with them and denying information about the incident.
They are asking for video footage of the match, details about Guo’s health coverage, and details on how he was being treated prior to his hospitalization. Guo’s brother stated on social media on Tuesday that the family “just want facts and fairness.”
It further stated that they had now acquired video footage of the game and arranged for specialists to examine it. The Beijing FA stated, “We have done everything we can to get together medical facilities to provide therapy and meet his family’s needs.”
