Mohammad Amir, an ex- fast bowler for Pakistan, has suggested an upcoming wicketkeeper-batsman to be the new captain of the national T20 squad.

Mohammad Amir said that Mohammad Haris would be a “great choice” for the position in an interview with a private TV program. Mohammad Haris has plenty of experience as a skipper in “List A” cricket and other local events, such as the “Champions Cup, Pakistan A, and Pakistan Shaheens”, according to Mohammad Amir.

On the other side Agha Salman, who was named the T20 skipper for the next tour of New Zealand, is more suited for the game’s longer formats, the left-arm bowler said. According to Mohammad Amir, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needed to have taken into account Mohammad Haris, who has been looked after in domestic cricket, while choosing a new captain.

Saim Ayub would be a stronger option for leadership in the shortest format, according to Ahmad Shahzad.

The PCB already selected the “ODI and T20I” teams for the next visit to New Zealand. The ODI team will be captained by Mohammad Rizwan, with all-rounder Salman Agha acting as his deputy.

Meanwhile Shadab Khan returned as the team’s vice-captain, and Salman Agha was named the T20I team’s captain. Alongside Mohammad Wasim Jr., who last participated in the ODI World Cup 2023, opening batsman Abullah Shafique returned to the ODI format.

Whereas (Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Thayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah, Irfan Khan Niazi, Abrar Ahmed, Akif Javed, Mohammad Ali, Sufyan Muqim, and Naseem Shah) are also part of the ODI team.
