US Plans Major Arms Deal With Saudi Arabia Ahead Of Trump Visit - aamnewshub.com

According to the sources, the US, under the leadership of Trump, will soon offer an arms package to Saudi Arabia.

US-Saudi defence ties:

It is expected that the US and Saudi defence ties will soon be strengthened with the US $100 billion arms deal to the Kingdom. The sources predict that the formal announcement of this deal will happen during Trump’s upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia. It would be the first time in case of the finalisation of the armed agreement between Saudi Arabia and the US.

The deal follows unsuccessful Biden-era talks:

In the Biden regime, he has tried to establish defence ties with Saudi Arabia. However, he remained unsuccessful due to his clauses. His agreement’s clause demands Saudi Arabia halt its purchases from China and reduce Chinese investment in Saudi Arabia. In addition, it also encouraged Saudi Arabia to normalise its relationship with Israel. However, his deal agreement was unsuccessful. Now, Trump has come up with another deal agreement. It is unclear whether the following deals consist of the same clauses.

Silence from officials:

Sources confirmed the deal agreement with Saudi Arabia. However, there has been no confirmation from the US or Saudi officials yet. The sources also confirmed that the authorities are carrying out the discussion on this deal, and the official announcement could come soon. When the media asked a US defence official about this deal, he said, “Our defence relationship with Saudi Arabia is stronger than ever under President Trump’s leadership. Security cooperation remains a key pillar of our partnership.”

A history of big promises and delays:

Trump has also offered many deals to Riyadh before this deal. Earlier, in 2017, he proposed a $110 billion deal to Riyadh. Till 2018, the US has only delivered $14.5 billion worth of weapons. The delay and the suspension of the deals happened after the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Upon his demise, Washington faced worldwide condemnation and an urge to halt its defence ties with Saudi Arabia.

Biden’s restrictions on arms sales:

In Biden’s regime, Congress forced the US armed forces to halt their arms export to the Kingdom. The restriction on the export of these arms came after the death of the journalist. The US also stressed that Saudi Arabia should stop its war in Yemen by halting its sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia.

Congress still holds the final say:

In US history, lawmakers are the ones who make the decisions on crucial matters like a lot of international weapons. The controversial Trump proposal of offering US weapons to the Kingdom is only carried out after its approval by Congress.

The F-35 fighter jet:

The F-35 fighter jet is a high-profile weapon built by Lockheed Martin. Saudi Arabia has always shown its interest in getting these advanced aircraft. During Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia, it is expected that the F-35 may also be discussed. The Kingdom has shown interest in the advanced stealth aircraft for years, and three sources confirmed that the F-35 would likely be discussed during Trump’s trip. However, the sources confirmed that the US might not agree to sell such massive sensitive jets.
