With effect from March 2025, the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) is going to make changes to the short-term savings certificate profit rates.

In order to meet investors’ short-term finance needs, the federal government launched Short Term Savings Certificates (STSCs) in 2012. ” Three-, six-, and one-year”  maturity choices are available for these certificates.

Scheme Is Beneficial Both Pakistani People And Foreigners

Both Pakistani citizens and foreigners living abroad can participate in the scheme, which has no maximum limit on investments and starts at a minimum of (Rs 10,000). Additionally, investors can choose to provide these Short Term Savings Certificates as protection.

In contrast to the previous rate of (11.08 %), the profit for a 3-month maturity certificate under the amended rates is now set at (11.12 %, or Rs2,780) on an investment of (Rs100,000).

The new profit rate for certificates with a 6-month maturity continues to be (11.08 %, or Rs5,540).

With the same investment amount, the one-year maturity certificates now give a return of (Rs10,960). The investor’s tax status determines how the earnings from these certificates are taxed. The withholding tax rate for those on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL) is (15%) of the yield; non-filers, who are not on the ATL, are taxed at a higher rate of (30%).

Whatever the date of investment or the size of the profit, these rates remain in place consistently. The rates for Short Term Savings Certificates for February 2025 were already updated by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS).

In comparison to the previous rate of (12.76 %), the profit for a 3-month maturity certificate under the new rates is now (11.24 %, or Rs2,810) on an investment of( Rs100,000). Compared to the previous rate of (12.74 %), which yielded (Rs6,370), the new profit rate for (6) month maturity certificates remains at 11.32 %, or Rs5,660) for every (Rs100,000) invested.
