The “Karachi Road Accident Analysis Unit (KRAAU)” was set up by the Traffic Police in an attempt to “improve road safety and lower the number of traffic accidents. The department will keep an eye on traffic incidents every day, gather evidence from the scene, look into what caused them, and give the appropriate authorities data-driven suggestions”.

More than (26,000) unlawful “fancy number plates, hooters, pressure horns, rotating lights, and other banned equipment” were burned at a ceremony held at the DIG Traffic office to make this announcement. Over the course of the previous year, the Traffic Police had seized these products for breaking traffic laws.

Senior authorities including “AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, SSPs Traffic from different districts, and others” attended the occasion.

Speaking to the crowd, Traffic Police DIG Pir Muhammad Shah underlined the significance of destroying these illegal activities gadgets, pointing out that doing so sends a clear message to the public about the negative effects of using such things.

Companies Face Charges Of Selling illegal Gadgets

Further he clarified that it is not allowed using fancy number plates, pressure horns, and other gadgets, and that companies that offer them would now face charges.

The Karachi Road Accident Analysis Unit, which will have ten personnel and carry out in-depth investigations into traffic incidents, was established, according to DIG Shah.

From accident sites, the team will collect “evidence, analyze contributing factors, and provide comprehensive reports”. Their research will be utilized to develop vast plans to lower accident rates and stop losses.

Additionally, DIG Shah discussed intentions to create a mobile application to expedite the data collecting and accident reporting procedure. The creation of the new department is a step toward solving the city’s traffic problems, he added, even though the Traffic Police cannot do miracles.

Need More Coordinated Strategy

Speaking at the event, AIG Odho noted the need of addressing Karachi’s traffic issues from several angles. He added that the city’s road development projects have resulted in more traffic on other roads, which has put a greater burden on security forces.

Additionally, he pointed out how important the transportation department is to enhancing traffic conditions. According to Odho, (24%) of pedestrians and (58%) of motorcycle riders were killed in traffic accidents in 2024.

Over the course of the previous year, the Traffic Police took away almost (500,000) automobiles and collected over (Rs1 billion) in fines. He further added that even while traffic enforcement has improved, long-term transformation requires a more coordinated strategy.
