An official statement from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has confirmed the price drop under the quarterly adjustment, which follows Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif’s recent statement of a decrease in power costs.

Customers might receive up to “Rs3.02” in relief per unit under the announcement. With effect from “April to June 2025”, the change would lower power tariffs by “Rs1.90” per unit for the “October–December 2024” quarter.

This electricity price cut comes after many power distribution firms, notably K-Electric in Karachi, requested support for customers facing rising energy bills.

Although electricity rates in the rest of Pakistan would drop by “Rs0.46” per unit, Karachi will witness an even bigger cut, with rates dropping by “Rs3.02” per unit.

Provide Karachi Customers And Industry Sector Relief In Electricity Bills

Electricity users should get an estimated “Rs56.38” billion in economic relief as a result of the action, relieving financial strains brought on by rising energy needs. However, as stated in the official NEPRA statement, prepaid and lifeline customers would not be affected by the change.

During hearings on the quarterly adjustments held by NEPRA in February, several stakeholders highlighted the significance of lowering the cost of power.

To further control power prices, separate notices about monthly pricing modifications have been sent out in addition to the quarterly adjustments.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announcement states that beginning in April 2025, power bills will reflect the relief that results from this decrease in electricity costs. The January 2025 monthly adjustment showed a significant decline for Karachi customers, providing even more financial relief.

This project attempts to stabilize energy prices, assuring affordable for residential and business users equally. Moreover, the government keeps reviewing energy rules in an effort to keep costs down and ensure a steady supply of electricity.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier declared a large cut in power costs, calling it a huge public relief. The government has agreed to reduce the energy cost by “Rs 7.41” per unit for home customers and “Rs 7.59” per unit for industries, he disclosed while speaking at an event held to make the news. Looking at it as a present to the country in honor of Eid, the nation’s leader voiced confidence that this cut would boost economic activity across.
