MWM Protests: Police Break Up Sit-In in Abbas Town, Karachi
Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) protests continue at ten various places around the city, Karachi police have taken steps to stop the sit-in in Abbas Town.
According to information, the police in Abbas Town took action against the MWM demonstrators in order to clear the route. Major routes such as (MA Jinnah Road at Numaish Chowrangi, Kamran Chowrangi, Johar Mor, and Five Star Chowrangi) have been closed by demonstrators in the meantime.
Additionally, there are protests going on at (Ayesha Manzil Chowrangi, University Road, Shamsuddin Azimi Road, Incholi, and Nazimabad Nos. 1 and 2).
Disturb Traffic Flow
In several places, only one lane of traffic is allowed, and several of the roads surrounding the protest locations are still closed. Alternative routes are also experiencing congestion, but traffic is being redirected there.
Police in Karachi have urged residents to be patient, stay away from protest-affected areas, and choose other routes to minimize any disturbance.
In case the people of Karachi need any aid during the MWM protests, the police have also instructed them to call the traffic helpline at (1915). The public is asked to cooperate and pay attention to traffic updates in order to reduce interruptions.
A representative quickly withdrew the statement made by Karachi Additional Inspector General (AIG) Javed Alam Odho that the protests had ended.
Warning
“The ongoing protest will be cleared before Maghrib,” Javed Alam Odho said. “Those who didn’t leave will be removed in accordance with the law”, he threatened.
On the other side the Karachi Police Chief did not provide any specific directions to put a stop to the protests, an official for the Karachi Police department said minutes later. It was a misunderstanding the representative clarified, to associate the police chief’s remarks with the end of the demonstrations.
