- Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allowed the Pakistani Cricket team to play in India last year.
- PCB adheres to the partnership formula; a neutral venue for both teams to play present and future matches.
- ICC is expected to announce the UAE as a neutral venue for both teams to play matches till 2026.
The Champions Trophy matches 2025 are expected to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. Due to this, eight national teams had to come to Pakistan to play matches. The team includes Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan. All teams agreed upon the Pakistani pitch to play the series, except India.
The Indian Board of Control for Cricket did not give its consent to play these matches in Pakistan. The council said that due to security threats to the team and political instability between both nations, the Indian team could not join other teams in Pakistan to play these match series.
On the contrary, the Pakistani cricket team last year sent its team to India to play matches without disturbing the schedule. Irrespective of these reasons, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi gave a “Partnership Formula”. According to this proposal, both Pakistani and Indian teams will play their matches on a neutral ground.
The Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) dismissed the proposal of PCB for the next three years. BCCI informed that the council will not separate its path from the country’s political scenario. That is why, due to the deadlock between Pakistan and India, we cannot afford any mishap to reoccur between both nations.
In Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi told the media that they had a meeting with ICC. But unfortunately, the meeting was postponed. He told the media that the PCB would never let down its people on an International forum. Once things settle down, he will inform the public.
In response to a question regarding newly appointed International Cricket Council Chief Jay Shah, Mohsin Naqvi only replied that cricket will be cherished if ICC is dent-free. Still, once it gets dented, then the whole globe will feel its aftershocks.
On Sunday, a PCB spokesperson informed that it was on Pakistan to select a neutral ground for both nations to play future matches. He said that Pakistan selected the UAE as a neutral ground for both nations.
Initially, PCB wanted the Partnership formula to be applied till 2031, but BCCI dismissed it, and the other nations convinced BCCI to pursue the proposal for the next 3 years. That is why Pak-Indo matches of Champions Trophy 2025 will take place in UAE.
The spokesperson also said that the decision was made through a mutual interaction between Mohsin Naqvi and UAE Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan in Ghotki.
In the meeting, both nations discussed mutual interests and the promotion of cricket between both nations. Mohsin Naqvi also called the UAE Minister to join them in Pakistan for Champions Trophy matches. Mohsin Naqvi also praised UAE’s struggles in organising Champions Trophy matches.
ICC, however, clearly declared that Pak-Indo matches will be played on a neutral ground for the next three years matches between both nations. It is expected that ICC will soon finalise the schedule of the matches held in Pakistan and the Partnership Formula will be applied to the Champions Trophy 2025, to be held Women’s World Cup in India and the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India.
Cricket lovers are now eagerly waiting for the ICC to declare the Champions Trophy scheduled for 2025 held in Pakistan and UAE.
