Pakistan’s legendary culinary icon, Chef Zakir Qureshi, passed away in Karachi. The chef’s nephew confirmed the news of his demise. He has been living in the US for 5 years. He came back almost 20 days ago. The chef was facing kidney issues. That is why he undergoes the dialysis process. His funeral prayers are scheduled to be held after Asr today in the Saudabad area of Karachi.
A life devoted to the kitchen:
Zakir Qureshi has devoted all his life to his passion. He was not an ordinary chef. In Fact, Zakir was the voice that so many homecooks loved to hear. He brought comfort and flavor to viewers’ homes with his television shows, especially the popular Zakir’s Kitchen on DawnNews during the 2010s. Once, in an interview, the chef said, “I don’t watch movies or listen to music. I don’t socialize. All I know is cooking. Food is my life.”

In 2014, Chef Zakir served as a judge on MasterChef Pakistan. The show made history by becoming the first Pakistani reality program to receive a nomination at the Asian Television Awards.

Chef Zakir authored several cookbooks. His books were widely appreciated for being practical and easy to follow. He also launched two restaurants in Karachi. Shaan-e-Mughlia in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Clifton Grill were his famous restaurants that he sold later.
