U.S. Requires Foreign Nationals to Carry Proof of Legal Status at All Times

Trump gave a new Visa policy in which he said that US non-citizens must have to register with the Government and must carry their documents at all times for US citizen authenticity.
A major shift in Immigration policy:
The United States government has introduced a new regulation requiring all foreign nationals to carry proof of their legal status at all times. This rule is now being enforced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Whether you’re a student, tourist, worker, or even a permanent resident (Green Card holder), this new rule applies to nearly every non-citizen living in the United States.
Biometric Fingerprinting Needed:
The government has made fingerprint registration mandatory for all foreign nationals aged 14 and above. If you are a foreign national over 14 and have not yet been fingerprinted, you must appear in person for this process. After fingerprinting, you will receive official registration proof issued by DHS. This document must be kept with you at all times. The rule follows Section 262 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Necessity of the rule:
President Trump issued Executive Order 14159, titled “Protecting the American People Against Invasion”, on January 20. The US government is stressing the registration of foreign nationals. The USCIS explained that while many immigrants had already registered, a significant number still lacked a clear way to meet their legal responsibilities. That is why a new form called Form G-325R was designed specifically to collect biometric data through an online platform.
Strict penalties for non-compliance:
According to USCIS, foreign nationals who do not register or fail to carry proof of registration could face criminal charges, fines, and imprisonment. Even if you’re in the country legally, forgetting to carry your registration proof could cause you legal trouble, especially now that law enforcement officers, even traffic police, are allowed to ask for proof.
Important guidelines for families and children:
The new rule also includes specific instructions for children under the age of 14. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for ensuring their children register before turning 14. Once the child reaches 14, they have 30 days to register again and complete fingerprinting.
To-do list for a Foreign national in the US:
If you are living in the United States on any visa or residency status, you need to check your status to see whether your immigration documents are valid and up to date. Also, register yourself through an online platform and appear for fingerprinting if required. Moreover, you need to carry your documents for your registration proof. And ensure your children get registered.
Legal experts’ advice:
Lawyers and immigration specialists are urging everyone affected to pay close attention to this regulation. The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has warned its members and the general public about the seriousness of this change. The Association said that if foreign nationals did not take these rules seriously, then they could face delays in future immigration applications, legal complications and deportation.
