UN Experts Urge Pakistan To Address Human Rights Violations In Balochistan

- The United Nations experts criticised Pakistan for not doing enough to eradicate terrorism in Balochistan.
- The critics forced Pakistan to strictly follow the International rules and laws in the region to secure basic human rights.
Global human rights voices raise concerns:
In Pakistan, Balochistan has always been a hot topic when it comes to terrorism. Terrorists or armed groups in the region have always been fatal to the province’s safety. Globally, critics have shown their concerns over the deadliest attacks in Balochistan. The international human rights community forced Pakistan to uphold fundamental humanitarian laws to tackle the situation in Balochistan.
The crisis of enforced disappearances:
Enforced disappearances are often seen nowadays in Pakistan. People are abducted secretly and recovered without any legal process. The International Humanitarian Rights Committee has pleaded with Pakistan to focus on the matter and take strict actions against these abductions. Critics also urged Pakistan to enforce strict punishments against the criminals involved in these crimes and declared it an official offence.

In addition, critics also said Pakistan should get the confidence of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances. They said that Pakistan should give them authentic details of such crimes so that the convention can help Pakistan in dealing the situation effectively.
Pakistan faces backlash:
Pakistan is facing severe backlash from expert critics. The critics alleged that Pakistan is misusing international anti-terrorism laws. They criticised Pakistan for doing so and mistook a peaceful protest as terrorism. They also urged Pakistan to not halt basic human rights, i.e. freedom of expression, assembly and association. It is seen that the critics were talking about the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).
Digital blackouts and silenced voices:
The internet shutdown and instability are often highlighted in Balochistan. The digital blackout restricts Balochis from connecting globally. People are also forced to remain silent on the circumstances in Balochistan. The internet blockage disconnects them globally and restricts them from asking for help.
Flawed terrorism laws:
Pakistan’s anti-terrorism law has no clear-cut definition of terrorism. As per the law, hundreds of people, including students, academics, civil servants and HR defenders, are declared proscribed terrorists without any evidence. That is why major Baloch activists are also forbidden to travel abroad.
Warnings against new detention laws:
The UN experts warned against the new detention law. Experts predict that the new detention laws appear to be against fundamental human rights. As per the laws, there is a construction of new internment centres for terrorism suspects in Balochistan. The experts, though, warned that the new law might be damaging to global peace.
A Call for reform and justice:
The International human rights communities plead with Pakistan to ponder on its anti-terrorism policies in accordance with basic human rights standards. They are also asked to take necessary measures to tackle unrest and spread peace in the region.
