Trump believed Iran was dragging its nuclear talks. Another exchange of talks will be held on April 19 in Rome.

US President warns Iran:

Trump has accused Iran of deliberately delaying progress in reaching a new nuclear agreement with the United States. Trump said he believes Iran is “dragging its feet.” He warned that if the country does not give up its pursuit of nuclear weapons, it could face a military strike targeting its atomic sites. Trump emphasised that the U.S. is open to peaceful talks, but if Iran refuses to act fast, a tougher response could be on the table.

Recent talks in Oman:

The first indirect talks between the US and Iran were constructive. Steve Witkoff, the US envoy, met with a top Iranian official. His meet-up demonstrates a positive response to the previous meeting. The next round of talks will be in Rome.

Rome for nuclear talks:

Rome has been decided as the next destiny to carry out the second round of negotiations between the US and Iran. Iran’s nuclear program and the economic sanctions would be the focus. The coming meeting holds significance in tackling the fragile diplomatic situation.

Iran’s position:

Iran’s Foreign Minister planned to visit Russia. His visit is a part of the planned diplomatic tour. It signals that Iran is gathering support and preparing its strategy for the next round of talks. Iranian spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the visit. He said it would take place just before the scheduled negotiations in Rome.

Trump’s strategy:

Trump’s warning of military attacks on Iran is seemingly considered Trump’s tactics to foster the speed of Iran in US-Iran nuclear deals. As per the sources, Iran may go for a deal in case of economic benefits. Since the talks with the US were announced, Iran’s currency has actually gained 16 percent. It is a sign of growing hope that sanctions could soon be lifted and business could begin again.

Trump’s military threat or negotiating tool:

Trump’s warning of a military response raised global concerns. Experts believe that it might be a negotiation tactic by Trump. Trump might hope to push Iran toward a quick decision by showing its strength. Trump had previously withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal during his presidency in 2018. The 2015 nuclear deal aimed to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons in exchange for the easing of international sanctions. Since then, the relationship between the two countries has been on shaky ground.

UN nuclear watchdog steps in:

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog will visit Tehran to monitor Iran’s nuclear activities. The involvement of the IAEA shows that the global community is closely watching the situation. It is trying to prevent any move toward nuclear weapon development.
