IG Sindh: Strict Penalties for Traffic Violations Announced
Sindh police imposed a heavy penalty on the licensed traffic rules breaker and ordered the seizing of vehicles of non-licensed drivers.
Pakistanis are seen mostly in violating traffic rules. The higher authorities are fed up with this nonsense behavior of the people. Many times, the authorities deduced traffic rules but they became fruitless as the authorities didn’t succeed in the implementation of these rules.
On Tuesday, the IG chairman, Ghulam Nabi Memon, organized a meeting at the Central Police Office. In a meeting, the IG chairman stressed the implementation and designing of traffic rules.
An awareness session regarding driving licenses was initiated on December 20. In the different sessions, people were taught about traffic rules and the significance of getting a license in today’s world.
The awareness sessions were set up in 35 different public locations. In order to raise awareness regarding traffic rules, more than 2000 banners were spread. The authorities see that the outcome of these sessions was positive, as 25-30% of people are now licensed drivers.
That is why the IG chairman decided to prolong the session in different sequences. Moreover, the chairman ordered that the implementation of the traffic rules should be started from January 1.
The DIG Traffic police informed that the traffic police is facing issues in implementing these traffic laws. In addition there is a poor traffic infrastructure that hinders them in the implementation of these laws. He also criticized traffic police for not performing their duties vigilantly. He said that the traffic police are not performing their duties well. Instead of insisting citizens get a driver’s license and avoid traffic rules and violence, they let them go by a mere act of checking.
The IG chairman said that those who do not restrict themselves from violating these laws would get punishment. Those who have licenses but still violate traffic rules have to pay a fine, and for those who do not have licenses, their vehicles would be occupied on the spot.
IG Sindh further noted that today’s accidents mostly happen because people are taking traffic rules for granted. People should keep in notice that a key element to avoid accidents is obeying traffic rules. He instructed traffic police to investigate traffic accidents thoroughly because a thorough investigation would help in reducing the risk of traffic accidents.
Moreover, he directed the traffic officers to monitor every day traffic flow and arrange sessions that foster traffic rules awareness among individuals.
