According to sources, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has formally authorized a cut in energy prices of “Rs1.71 per unit” in Karachi and throughout Pakistan from (April to June 2025).

In an effort to lower the burden of money on consumers in the face of growing inflation, the federal government formally requested this decision.

In addition millions of homes and companies will benefit from the price reduction, which will be applied to power bills filed during these 3-months.

But such relief would not be available to lifeline customers. NEPRA first received the request from the federal government, and before making a final judgment, it held a hearing on April 4th, 2025.

Govt Planning And Effect On Finance

Consumers across the country are anticipated to benefit financially from the “Rs 58 billion” in energy price decrease.

This action is in line with the government’s general plan to strengthen the energy industry and lessen the effects of rises in the petroleum tax.

This reduction in energy rates is meant to alleviate some of the financial burden on the people, since the government increased the tax charged by petroleum companies on gasoline and high-speed diesel by “Rs10 per liter” last month.

NEPRA has authorized quarterly modifications that would further reduce power costs in addition to the “Rs1.71 per unit” cut.

Although the remaining regions of the country would witness a drop of “Rs1.90 per unit”, Karachi consumers will get a fall of “Rs3.02 per unit”. Beginning in April 2025, power bills will reflect these changes.

The government has made it clear that this assistance is a short-term solution to increase demand for power and give customers financial relief.

Future electricity rate reductions are also being discussed with independent power producers (IPPs). An important step in giving Pakistani customers financial comfort is the NEPRA energy price decrease.

The government hopes to stabilize energy prices and aid in economic recovery with the “Rs1.71 per unit” drop and further quarterly adjustments.

From (April to June 2025), consumers might see reduced electricity prices, which would be a good development for the nation’s energy industry.
