G7 Leaders Urge De-escalation Amid Israel‑Iran Conflict

On Monday, the G7 leaders, in a summit in Canada, stressed the de-escalation between Israel and Iran conflict.
G7 summit overshadowed by Middle East crisis:
On Monday, at the G7 summit in Canada, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States leaders issued a joint statement for de-escalation in the Middle East. Canada issued an official statement on behalf of the summit. It said, “We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.” Meanwhile, during the summit, Trump Trump abruptly exited the summit. It intensified the speculation about America’s next move.
Trump warns Tehran:
The sources claimed that the US is also involved in assisting Israel to attack Iran. However, Trump remained vague about potential US military involvement in the escalating conflict. Through his social media post, Trump warned Tehran. He stated, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran! Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again!”
Trump and its allies are strongly stressing that Iran can not be a nuclear country. That is why the attacks are only meant to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power. In a press release, he said, “As soon as I leave here, we’re going to be doing something.” White House officials reiterated that US forces in the region remained “postured defensively.”
France calls for ceasefire:
French President Emmanuel Macron took a firm stance at the summit. He urged both sides to stop targeting civilians. He warned against any attempts to force regime change in Iran. He called it a “strategic error.”
Macron stated that “All who have thought that by bombing from the outside, you can save a country in spite of itself have always been mistaken.” He stressed that the United States could play a critical role in brokering a ceasefire.
Israel intensifies campaign with ‘Rising Lion’ Operation:
Israel escalated its assault by launching airstrikes on Iran. Israel is not sitting quietly. After the deadly massacre in Gaza, it targeted the key nuclear and media infrastructure in Iran. Israel’s mission aims to cripple Tehran’s nuclear capabilities. According to IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, the Natanz nuclear plant is massively damaged.
Civilian casualties soar on both sides:
In the Israel-Iran war, the civilians are suffering. According to the Iranian health ministry, over 224 deaths and 1,000 injuries are reported. Israel has recorded 24 deaths. The Iranian Foreign Ministry took a social media account and warned, “Israel must halt its aggression, and absent a total cessation of military aggression against us, our responses will continue.”
In the G7 summit, the G7 leaders stressed that the war has always been harsh towards the lives of the innocent people of both sides. The G7 leaders stressed Israel’s right to defend its territory while it also enforced the safety of the civilians.
Iran seeks diplomatic back channels via Gulf States:
Iran reportedly turned to Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. It urged them to pressure Trump to rein in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the sources, Tehran signalled flexibility in stalled nuclear negotiations. However, the talks already scheduled in Oman for June 15 were cancelled after Israel’s unexpected offensive.
Israel targets Iranian state broadcaster:
Israel struck Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) network live on air. Iranian presenter Hassan Abedini confirmed the attack and said, “The Zionist regime, the enemy of the Iranian nation, minutes ago conducted a military operation against the Islamic Republic of Iran news network.”
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) condemned the attack and called it a dangerous escalation. The regional director of CPJ for the Middle East said, “Israel’s killing, with impunity, of almost 200 journalists in Gaza has emboldened it to target media elsewhere in the region. This bloodshed must end now,”
Missile strikes shake both nations:
Iran and Israel are both bombarding missiles at each other. Iran’s capital, Tehran, and key nuclear hub, Natanz, were reportedly hit by Israeli attacks. Simultaneously, Tel Aviv experienced midnight sirens and explosions from incoming Iranian missiles. The Israeli Army posted on Telegram, “It is now permitted to leave protected spaces in northern Israel.”
Muslim world unites against Israeli aggression:
The Muslim communities strongly condemned Israel’s brutalities. Pakistan and 19 other Muslim countries raised their voices in the United Nations against Israel. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar issued a joint foreign ministers’ statement. He urged a swift ceasefire and a return to nuclear diplomacy.
The Chinese embassy in Tel Aviv advised its citizens to evacuate through land routes. This follows increased Israeli vulnerability after an Iranian missile strike severely damaged the Bazan Group refinery in Haifa and killed three employees.
Trump pushes for a nuclear deal amid chaos:
Despite the escalating crisis, President Trump claims he still wants a new nuclear deal with Iran. At the G7 summit, he said, “We are postured defensively in the region to be strong in pursuit of a peace deal. I think a deal will be signed, or something will happen. Iran is foolish not to sign,” However, he refused to sign the G7’s joint statement, which called for de-escalation and insisted that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons.
