On Monday, Kamala Harris presided over the certification ceremony in a joint session of Congress.

In the November 5 election, Donald Trump got a victory over Kamala Harris. Trump has to be sworn in on January 20. During a joint session of the House of Representatives and Senate, Kamala Harris presided over the meeting. Being a Senate President, she held a meeting after getting certified results of the election for all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

About 4 years ago, when Joe Biden got victory over Donald Trump in the elections, the supporters of Trump tried to block Biden’s victory. That is why today’s certification ceremony is different from then. Trump has always said that his loss in the 2020 elections was because of his false claim of being fraudulent for the country. In the 2024 elections, he also expressed his same concerns. He said his concern remained with him until he got victory over Kamala Harris.

Trump, through his social media handles, said that today is a big moment in history as Congress certifies our great electoral victory today, even when there were 6 inches of snow falling in Washington. Trump got 312 votes, while Harris got 226. A clear electoral victory of Trump over Harris.

In the Senate, Republicans were in the majority. The majority of Republicans will give Trump a supporting hand in pursuing his plans like tax cut policy and amendment in immigration policies..

Heightened Security at the Capitol:

There were strict security measures for the certification ceremony. There were metal fences surrounding the Capital. There were checkpoints within each passage. The Capitol police checked IDs at key entrances and tunnels.

It is also expected that Trump will forgive the people involved in the 2021 Capitol riot. At that time, rioters damaged $2.8 million and resulted in the death of several officers. In 2022,  strict laws were made to foster the certification process.
