As they saved (230) people from the icy waters of the Channel, French officials informed on Sunday 9th of Feb that the remains of (2) men discovered on a beach in northern France were likely migrants attempting to reach Britain.

The Pas-de-Calais prefecture informed AFP that the 1st body was discovered on the sandy beach in Berck, and the 2nd was discovered less than (2) hours later, about {300 meters (984 ft)} away.

According to the prefecture, the guys were migrants trying to swim to a tiny dinghy or “taxi-boat” that was already in the sea. In recently, bodies have frequently washed up on beaches surrounding Calais as homemade migrant boats have overturned or had stormy embarkations that have left some of its passengers in the ocean.

Despite occasionally extremely cold weather, crossing efforts continued in the heart of winter following a record-breaking year for fatalities in the Channel.

One party was rescued after their boat deflated as they were sailing to Britain in the morning, leaving (57) people in the sea close to Gravelines, which involved (2) hypothermic persons and (1) person who was discovered unconscious.

After that, a boat with (38) people on board made a distress call, and another (19) individuals were rescued from a skiff that continued to travel while carrying dozens more people.

Whereas (42) people, including (2) who needed airlifts to hospitals, were saved at Dunkirk. Meanwhile (33) individuals were rescued by a patrol boat in the evening after they set out that morning but were unable to cross the Channel.

According to French officials, roughly (76) migrants lost their lives while attempting to enter Britain last year, making 2024 the bloodiest year for the crossings.
