The province’s Transport 2030 Vision, which attempts to modernize public transportation and lower carbon emissions, includes the electric taxi program that was revealed during Pakistan’s maiden Transport Expo.
Interest Free Installments
The plan calls for the introduction of new cars and electric bikes with affordable ownership options for jobless people. According to official sources, the cabs would be available in interest-free installments to make them affordable for those with low incomes.
Additionally, Bilal Yasin presented simplified plans for Lahore’s first tram service, which is expected to start running in February of the following year.
In the initial phase, “the tram will travel along Main Boulevard and Jail Road; later, it will expand to Canal Road, which runs alongside the river”.
Plans for the development of (41) contemporary depots in each of Punjab’s districts were among the significant innovations showcased at the Transport Expo. While (1,100) electric buses and trams will be introduced by 2030 when the deployment of electric buses begins in December 2025.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Autonomous vehicle testing will also take place without drivers. Additionally, (1,000) electric vehicle charging stations are being developed to help with this transition.
The electric taxi program is a key component of the Punjab government’s plan to electrify (80%) of its transportation network by 2030, which represents a strategic move toward environmentally friendly infrastructure and comprehensive urban mobility.
The Sindh Workers Welfare Board had earlier said that free electric motorcycles would be given to female industrial workers throughout the state.
The plan, which was presented by Sindh Labour Minister Shahid Thaheem, calls for the distribution of (10,000) electric motorcycles to female employees. This action looks to support sustainable transportation options and improve women’s independence.
