Hussain Rana is a Canadian citizen and has Pakistani origin. Rana was based in Chicago and was convicted in 2011. He received a 13-year prison sentence for aiding the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. The US Supreme Court rejected Rana’s review petition last month. His extradition to India is now approved. Trump described him as one of the “very evil people” in the world. He assured that Rana would be sent back to India immediately.
India welcomes extradition decision:
The Indian Prime Minister thanked Trump for giving Rana to the Indian government. India wanted Rana’s custody for so long because of his involvement in Mumbai’s attack. During the press conference, Trump also addressed other security concerns. He mentioned that the US and India were cooperating on crime and terrorism.
Strengthening US-India relations:
Modi’s visit to the US underscored growing ties between the two nations. He proposed increasing trade with Washington and made tariff concessions. India reduced duties on high-end motorcycles. Thus benefiting American manufacturer Harley-Davidson. The US and India are also working on infrastructure investments. They plan to enhance trade routes connecting India, Israel, and Europe. Trump described this as “one of the greatest trade routes in history.”
Trade and economic agreements:
Trump has no leniency even with his allies in trade. He has taken a tough stance in trade. He imposed reciprocal tariffs on all trading partners, including India. Trump called India’s tariffs “unfair and very strong.” He acknowledged that this was a “big problem.” However, he assured that negotiations would take place to address trade imbalances.
Modi stressed that India and the US will soon be on the same page with mutually beneficial trade deals. The agreement will focus on oil and gas partnerships.
