STRASBOURG: On Thursday, the European Union lawmakers made a strict call to impose sanctions on two extremist Israeli Ministers. Moreover, it also announced to curb trade ties with Israel due to its ongoing attack on Gaza.

On Wednesday, the European Chief addressed the European Parliament. In her keynote speech, she would mention the names of blocked Israeli Ministers. The European Union said “it had voted for a non-binding resolution that “endorses the Commission president’s decision to suspend EU bilateral support to Israel, and to suspend the EU-Israel agreement as regards trade partially.”

In addition, the EU Parliament also calls for sanctions on the Israeli Finance Minister and National Security Minister. The EU repeatedly faced harsh criticism for not reacting strongly in the Israel-Gaza war.

Strong voices raised against Israel’s attack on Journalists:

It’s been 2 years since Israel continued its genocidal attack on Gaza. Israel has crossed all humanitarian boundaries. In fact, it majorly targeted the journalists who raised their voices against its oppression in Gaza.

The Foreign Press Association condemned the Israeli strikes in Gaza and also rebuked the Israeli government and military for not allowing foreign journalists’ fair coverage in Gaza.

More than 350 members are working for the foreign media outlets in the Palestinian and Israel territories. The association said, “Israel must stop killing journalists in Gaza and give the foreign press free and independent access to the territory.”

The board of association said in a statement, “This continued and institutionalised delay in the process is a mark of shame on Israel and its allies, who have too often chosen not to speak up in defence of basic press freedoms.”

The association also cleared that it has repeatedly asked the Israel Supreme Court to give the EU access to Gaza, but every time it postponed the hearing. In a statement, “The association notes with dismay that it has been a full year since it submitted its second petition to the Israeli Supreme Court for free and independent access to Gaza. Despite the urgency, the court has repeatedly agreed to the government’s request for delays and postponed one hearing after another.”

The Foreign Press Association also condemned the Israeli airstrikes on the journalists who are doing their duties inside Gaza. The association said that Israel has targeted more than 200 journalists.

The Association said, “Palestinian journalists have been directly targeted. Places where they habitually gathered have been bombed. Despite all of these dangers, they continue to inform the world while facing not only violence, but also hunger and repeated displacement.”

The FPA also condemned the Israeli strikes on Gaza. It rebuked “Israeli leaders and the military for going to extreme lengths to discredit the work of our Palestinian colleagues, and to a great extent, the work of the foreign press as a whole.”
