Late last night, a fatal suicide attack on the Police Training School (PTS) in DI Khan resulted in the martyrdom of at least (7) police officers and the injuries of (13) more.

The attack was followed by a (5) hour counter-terrorism operation that killed (6) terrorists. Police officials said that the assailants, who are connected to Fitna-ul-Khawarij, pushed a truck carrying explosives into the training facility’s main gate, forcing a portion of the wall to fall.

After then, the uniformed terrorists entered inside the building and started shooting randomly. A sizable detachment of security personnel showed up at the location after receiving the alert. All (6) assailants were neutralized during a coordinated police and security force operation that lasted more than (5) hours.

Ammunition, automatic firearms, explosives, and suicide vests were found at the location by security personnel. Several of the injured police officers were reportedly in critical condition when they were sent to neighboring hospitals.

About “(200) students, teachers, and staff” were inside the training facility when the attack occurred, according to DPO Dera Sajjad Ahmed.

A much larger catastrophe was avoided because of the prompt response, which allowed everyone to be safely evacuated.

While “Zulfiqar Hameed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), commended the DI Khan police for their rapid and brave response, especially that of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ashfaq Anwar and DPO Sajjad Ahmed. Bringing the police force’s resolve to eradicate terrorism from the area, he thanked their leadership”.

Along with expressing satisfaction and offering special incentives to the staff who contributed to the successful operation, the IGP also said prayers for the officers who had been martyred. Even though the area has been “cleared, search and sweep” efforts are still on to find any surviving militants or facilitators, according to a police official.
