Pakistan’s Electricity Rates Are Probably Going To Increase.

On Monday 29th of September 2025, the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for August 2025 is anticipated to result in an increase of Rs0.19 per unit in electricity rates throughout Pakistan.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will consider a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) in an open session today. Customers of K-Electric will also be affected by the monthly change.
The CPPA reports that “13.715 billion of the 14.22 billion” units of electricity generated in August were sent to distribution companies (Discos). Compared to a comparable cost of “Rs7.31 per unit”, the cost of delivered power was “Rs7.50 per unit”. A further financial burden of more than “Rs3 billion” will be placed on customers if the desired increase is approved.
In a previous case, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan challenged the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (NEPRA) ruling allowing K-Electric (KE) to add unpaid bills and losses from electricity theft in its customer rate in the Sindh High Court.
The regulatory authority authorized K-Electric to get back losses of “Rs74 billion” from bills that remain unpaid and stolen electricity, which will likely cause to raise prices for responsible customers.
In a media appearance, Muhammad Aamir Siddiqui, the MPA for the MQM, criticized K-Electric’s conduct as “profiteering” and “harassment.”
He called the NEPRA ruling an injustice and a kind of a common punishment for the people of Karachi. Siddiqui voiced his worry that sincere customers who consistently pay their bills would now have to foot the bill for electricity theft.
