Ramadan 2024: Pakistan announces Zakat, Sadaqah-e-Fitr & Fidya rates.
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, the Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, Sheikh AlHadith Professor Dr Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali, expressed the required amount of Sadaqah Fitrana and Fidya for Ramadan this year. Further to the notification, the smallest Sadaqah-e-Fitr or Fitrana, a compulsory helping others giving throughout Ramadan, is Rs300 for each person.
This amount is about equal to 2 kilos of wheat flour. Moreover, the Fidya for missing fasting caused by medical conditions has been fixed at Rs300 for each person. Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali highlighted the need for benefactors and wealthy persons to provide Fitrana and Fidya through their ability to pay.

The price ranges assigned to different food products include Rs600 for oats, Rs2,400 for dates, and Rs 4,400 for raisins as well. He also explained the Fidya fasting costs during Ramadan, which vary from Rs9,000 for wheat flour to Rs132,000 for raisins.
He stressed that Fidya for fasting is designed for people who are incredibly sick, unable to fast, and have little hope of improvement. It was underlined that travelers and others who are physically unable to fast need to make compensation for missed fasts since Fidya cannot be used as a replacement for fasting.
The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security determined the necessary amount for Zakat at Rs135,179 for the year 2024. The government declared that Zakat would apply to savings/profit and loss-sharing (PLS) accounts having a value of Rs135,179 or more.
As a result, consumers who fit the criteria will have to pay 2.5% of their total account amount to Zakat.
