Pakistan Navy Seized Drug Shipment in Arabian Sea

On Tuesday, according to the statement issued by a naval network, Pakistan Navy ship Yarmook seized drug shipment in the Arabian Sea.
A major success in maritime security:
The Pakistan Navy has achieved a remarkable success at sea by intercepting two drug-laden boats within 48 hours. The operation was part of a multinational effort under the Combined Maritime Force (CMF). CMF is a global naval partnership that includes the United States.
According to CMF, the Pakistani vessel PNS Yarmook carried out these operations in direct support of the Saudi-led Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 during Operation Al Masmak, which began on October 16. The achievement highlights Pakistan’s growing role in maintaining maritime security in the region.
Massive drug haul in two operations:
On October 18, the crew of PNS Yarmook boarded the first sailing vessel (dhow), and seized over two tons of crystal methamphetamine, valued at around $822.4 million. Another dhow was intercepted less than two days later. It was carrying 350 kilograms of crystal meth worth $140 million and 50 kilograms of cocaine worth $10 million.
In total, the Pakistan Navy confiscated narcotics worth nearly $972 million in these back-to-back operations. The seized drugs were brought to the ship for testing and were later disposed of according to international maritime procedures.
This record-breaking haul demonstrates the Pakistan Navy’s vigilance and effectiveness in combating smuggling and illegal trafficking at sea.
The role of PNS Yarmook:
The PNS Yarmook is a modern, multi-mission ship that joined the Pakistan Navy fleet in December 2020. The vessel is equipped with advanced electronic warfare systems, anti-ship and anti-air capabilities, and state-of-the-art self-protection technologies.
It can perform multiple maritime operations simultaneously, including unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) missions. This makes it a highly versatile platform for both defense and humanitarian operations.*
Humanitarian and Security missions:
PNS Yarmook has a strong record of service beyond combat missions. In March 2023, it participated in a rescue operation after receiving a distress signal from a burning boat carrying eight Iranian fishermen, successfully saving their lives.
Later, in July 2024, the ship was deployed in the Indian Ocean to ensure the safety and security of merchant vessels traveling to and from Pakistan’s ports. These actions reflect the Navy’s commitment to regional stability, humanitarian assistance, and safe international trade routes.
Strengthening Pakistan’s global standing:
The latest seizure reinforces Pakistan’s position as a responsible maritime power in the region. Its cooperation with the CMF and CTF-150 underscores its active role in countering drug trafficking, piracy, and terrorism across international waters.
Pakistan has not only disrupted major criminal networks but also strengthened international trust in its naval capabilities with its interception.
As the world faces increasing maritime challenges, the Pakistan Navy continues to prove itself as a reliable partner for global peace, security, and stability across the seas.
