Pakistan Amends 1973 Civil Servants Promotion Rules

On Friday 7th of march 2025, in response to the Prime Minister’s orders, the Pakistani government modified the 1973 Civil Servants Promotion Rules, according to a report.
Based on specifics, the Establishment Division has issued a new Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s approval of modifications to the “Civil Servants Promotion Rules 1973”.
An officer’s application for promotion to “Grade 22” will only be taken into consideration twice, according to the updated regulations. The officer will not be re-examine and will basically retire in their present grade if advancement is denied in both cases.

The Pakistani Gazette has released a notification on these changes. Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif had earlier hoped that the public servants would be able to guide the country out of its current challenges and asked them to serve the country and people to the best of their abilities.
Details indicate that the prime minister said these things during the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) probationary officers’ graduation ceremony.
On the other side probationary officials were warned by PM Shehbaz Sharif that they would face challenges such as “unemployment, poverty, illness, illiteracy, and a slow response to public issues” as they assumed the basics of life in the real world.
The prime minister expressed thanks for the civil bureaucracy, stating that he himself knew some fine officers who had given their lives and shed their sweat to benefit the nation.
