Off The Southern Philippines, A 7.5-Magnitude Earthquake Occurs, And Tsunami Warnings Are Issued.

According to the Philippines’ seismology service, an earthquake of “magnitude 7.5” occurred offshore in the southern Philippines on Friday 10th of October 2025, morning.
People in the surrounding coastal areas were advised to evacuate to higher ground, and tsunami warnings were issued in other nations. The powerful earthquake occurred in waters near Manay town in Davao Oriental, Mindanao, and the Phivolcs agency issued a warning about damage and aftershocks.
The water level of the earthquake was estimated to be “20 kilometers (12 miles)”, and the magnitude was revised down from an earlier report of “7.6 to 7.5”. The coasts within “300 kilometers (186 miles)” of the epicenter of the earthquake could see dangerous waves, according to a tsunami warning issued by the U.S. Tsunami Warning System.
Teams of rescuers would be sent out when it was safe to do so, according to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who also stated that authorities were evaluating the situation on the ground. In a statement, Marcos stated, “We are working around the clock to make sure that support reaches those who needs it.” It was not immediately possible to contact local authorities in the impacted area.
Phivolcs said that wave heights of more than “one meter” over average tides might be predicted, and they advised residents of coastal areas in the central and southern Philippines to quickly evacuate to higher ground or go farther inland. According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the Philippines might see waves as high as “one to three meters” above tide level.
The earthquake occurred two weeks after the deadliest earthquake to strike the Philippines in over ten years, which killed seventy-two people on the island of Cebu. It also occurred offshore and had a magnitude of “6.9”.
Over “800 earthquakes” occur in the Philippines annually, which is located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire.” According to the PTWC, several Indonesian and Pacific island nation Palau coasts might see waves of up to one meter, while the country’s northern Sulawesi and Papua areas were under a tsunami warning. According to the Philippine governor of Davao Oriental, fear broke out as the earthquake occurred.
“There were reports of damage to a few buildings,” Edwin Jubahib informed Philippine channel DZMM. “It was really powerful.” The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimated the depth of the earthquake to be “58 kilometers (36 miles) and its magnitude to be 7.4”.
