Netanyahu is said by Hamas to delaying the peace Agreement

Netanyahu

On Sunday 18th of August 2024, Hamas charged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with slowing efforts to reach a deal on a ceasefire and hostage-taking in Gaza. According to a statement released by Hamas, Netanyahu bears the full blame for the deaths of the captives in Gaza, for weakening the work of the mediators and preventing an agreement. After (2) days of negotiations among (US, Egyptian, and Qatari) intermediaries in Doha, the US presented an updated compromise plan on Friday.

On the other side Hamas claims that the plan satisfies Netanyahu’s demands, particularly his refusal of a long-term truce and a thorough removal of the Gaza Strip, as well as its focus on maintaining control of the (Netzarim intersection, the Rafah border, and the Philadelphi corridor). Although the Netzarim intersection is strategically located between (northern and southern) Gaza, Israel views both of those two locations as crucial for blocking the movement of any weapons into the Gaza Strip. The exchange arrangement cannot be completed because Netanyahu also imposed fresh criteria in the prisoner’s exchange file and went underground from other items,” according to Hamas.

In an announcement, Hamas confirmed its backing for a plan that Joe Biden, president of the United States, claimed to be Israeli and which was put up in May. However, this plan called for a (3) stage agreement, with the 1st phase being a (6) week ceasefire, the return of hostages abducted on the 7th of October, and an Israeli removal from heavily populated areas of Gaza. Officials from Hamas have often charged Netanyahu with delaying a deal. Data from the Gaza health ministry show that Israel has murdered more than (40,099) civilians.
