Meat Shortage Expected in the Following Months
The country may face limited meat availability in the coming months because of reported increased meat exports and animal smuggling to different foreign countries. According to the AAM NEWS HUB report, Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi, President of the All Pakistan Jamiatul Quresh Meat Welfare Association, claimed this. He pointed out that a large quantity of meat was being sold to several other countries, generating demand and supply issues in Pakistan.
He disclosed that quite a lot of beef was being shipped to Central Asian countries. Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi mentioned that, besides approved meat exports, animals were trafficked into the country’s neighbor across Balochistan. He stated that meat rates are currently increasing due to exports and smuggling. “Mutton was sold for Rs1,900 per kg only a period of three months before, but now it costs between Rs2,200 and Rs2,400 per kg. Furthermore, three months before, beef with bones became available for Rs900 per kg, but it is currently being offered for Rs1,150 per kg,” he stated, warning that if this trend continues over the next few months, there would be a meat shortage.

Similarly, he expected the costs of sacrificing animals would increase this year. At the same time, Jamiatul Quresh published a statement suggesting that the country may suffer a meat lack due to weak export policies. It warned that meat costs will rise significantly in the following days. In addition to the increase in meat costs, the prices of a hundred other goods would also rise. The statement reported Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi declaring, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif needs to make note of this situation.” Pakistan has the highest-grade animals; unfortunately, due to its harmful policies, many workers involved in the meat industry have already lost their jobs.

He stated that animal items were beneficial and that exporting them would allow the government to profit significantly. He stressed the need to reduce exports of meat as well as illegal animal activities, claiming that the Prime Minister’s action is essential for avoiding the effects on society and the economy. He requested cooperation to promote cow cultivating to secure the country’s meat supply.
