On Monday 30th of June 2025, K-Electric customers will likely see a significant reduction in their electricity rates of “Rs4.69 per unit”.

In good news for Karachi residents, NEPRA is holding a hearing today, which could result in a power pricing reduction of “Rs4.69 per unit” for Karachi consumers within the monthly fuel adjustment for April.

Users of K-Electric would receive a financial benefit of about “Rs7.17 billion” if the suggested decrease is approved.

In the meantime, the NEPRA will hold a hearing on the proposal to raise the price of power in other regions of the nation by “Rs. 10 per unit”.

While K-Electric’s (KE) rate was lowered by “Rs2.99 per unit” by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) previously on the 5th of June.

The decline was made under the March monthly fuel settling in, which would show up in the June electricity bills, according to a notification that was issued.

This will provide some relief to K-Electric customers in the face of rising power prices and continuous load shedding in Karachi.

As the scorching summer temperatures peaks, the city has been dealing with increased unscheduled load-shedding, which has sparked protests from both citizens and political officials.

K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi acknowledged the high cost of electricity in a recent news debate, but he stayed away from accountability, blaming the pricing on government regulations.
