Reports of a fuel scarcity in Pakistan were denied by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which reassured that petroleum supply operations continue as usual throughout the nation.

An OGRA official said in an official statement that although there had been brief delays in the approval of imported petroleum products in the past, the problem had now been fixed.

According to the official, WAFI’s gasoline vessel and Pakistan State Oil’s (PSO) diesel vessel have both been cleared, guaranteeing perfect and continuous fuel supply across the country.

“Business keeps going as regular and fuel supply operations throughout the nation keep normal,” the official said.

The clarification came after industry worries that several petroleum cargoes had been left stranded at Karachi ports due to the Sindh government’s restoration of a (100%) bank guarantee under the Sindh Infrastructure Development Cess (IDC), raising concerns about a possible scarcity across the country.

At least (5) large cargoes including gasoline and diesel for “PSO, HPL, PGL, and PARCO” were pending customs clearance, according to a letter from the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) to the Sindh chief minister and federal authorities.

Still, OGRA underlined that domestic fuel distribution was unaffected and stated that it was keeping a careful eye on supply networks to avoid any shortages.
