The notification of the property tax rise and the distribution of notices to recently added regions in the federal capital have been overturned by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In addition Ahmed Hassan Rana and Munir Chaudhry filed appeals against the property raise and alerts, and the court granted their requests. The verdict was made by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, who noted that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad’s (MCI) the 23rd of January, 2024, decision had been raised in court.

The court had earlier stayed the notices of the property tax increase on the 4th of June 2024. The the 23rd of January notification, according to the MCI, was only a draft and hadn’t been put in the official gazette.

Further the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) was prohibited from raising property taxes until after the local government elections were held earlier in June by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani gave the order during the hearing of petitions pertaining to the Islamabad municipal authority and the postponement of the local government elections.
