Highway collapse kills 36 People in southern China
On Wednesday, 1st May 2024, a section of a highway fell apart in Guangdong province, southern China, and more than 36 people died, according to official media. As per state broadcaster CCTV, a section of road between Meizhou and Dabu regions in Guangdong province collapsed at (2:10 a.m). The event blocked (18) motor vehicles along with included (49) persons, based on CCTV. At (11:45 a.m.), “(36) people have been verified died, and (30) are undergoing full force emergency care in hospitals,” depending on the broadcaster.
It also stated that the lives of people in the hospital were “not right away at in danger” but did not identify their injuries. Television stations uploaded social media images showing the smoke and flames coming from a deep, black hole into which automobiles appeared to have dropped. While the other footage saw around a half-dozen individuals staying on a roadside, looking at the bright lights of rescue cars in the distance. Officials have rushed over (500) workforce to the scene to assist in the rescue effort, according to CCTV.

Further to the broadcaster, they come from agencies that deal with the safety of the public, responding to emergencies, firefighting, and rescue operations. However, according to a notification issued by local officials, a portion of the (S12) highway had been blocked in both directions as well, and cars were given directions to use other paths. The reason for the Highway collapse initially remained unexplained. In the last few weeks, Guangdong has seen a series of catastrophic weather disasters, including devastating floods and a tornado. Hailstones, similar to those of golf balls, appeared as well, falling on the city.
