Blinken travels to Qatar following Hamas’s response to the peace agreement.
On Wednesday 12th of June 2024, after Hamas responded to an Acting-led request for a truce in war-torn Gaza, the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken was set to go to Qatar for discussions. United States Secretary Antony Blinken, who is on a 4-country tour of the Middle East to convince Hamas to go along with the cease-fire plan, will meet with the most senior members of Qatar, which has sent messages to the Palestinian organization.
As reported by a source involved with the discussions, Hamas suggested revisions on Tuesday night to the proposal put forth by President Joe Biden on the 31st of May including a ceasefire schedule and the entire removal of Israeli soldiers from Gaza. The Biden proposal asks for Israel’s departure from “important population centers” and a 6-week cease-fire which would be continued as discussions reached a lasting agreement.
Whereas the White House stated Tuesday that the US was “considering” the response. US officials had quietly believed Hamas was going to insist on making a few changes rather than adopting the full accord right now and wanted to see whether there was enough agreement to work out issues with Israel. Months before extremely tight elections, Biden is ready to put a stop to a conflict that has become growing expensive for civilian casualties and upset portions of his own Democratic Party base.

He stated in Israel on Tuesday that whereas the far-right-leaning Israeli government has not publicly accepted the idea, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has resolved himself to it. Antony Blinken forced Yahya Sinwar, the insecure head of Hamas stationed in Gaza, to accept the agreement.”Are they caring about another person who could be safe for the time being buried, I guess, ten stories below ground someplace in Gaza whereas the people he claims to speak for are still suffering in a firing of their own making?” Blinken revealed to Tel Aviv media.
The Armed Forces count based on Israeli government data claims that Sinwar was the mastermind behind the October 7 incident that claimed 1,194 lives in Israel. In response, the Israeli army launched a horrific attack in Gaza that claimed the lives of more than 37,164 individuals, most of them civilians.
