General elections in India, can there be an upset?

The General Election 2024 has started in India. It will be the longest election in India, which will begin on April 19 and end on June 1 2024. About 996 million people will be able to vote in these general elections in India. If we talk about the Indian Parliament, the Parliament of India also consists of two parts. These members are elected by the elected members of the Union Executives and State Legislative Assemblies of India for a term of six years. The Rajya Sabha has a total of 245 members and a maximum of 250. The second part is called the lower house, like Lok Sabha, and in Pakistan, it is called the National Assembly. Elections are being held only for Lok Sabha members, who will be voted directly by the people.

Elections are being held on a total of 443 seats in the Lok Sabha, of which 131 seats are reserved for the lower castes known as Scheduled Castes. There is no caretaker government in India; the complete responsibility of conducting and managing the elections is entrusted to the Election Commission of India, which is established under the Constitution of India. It is impossible to organize. A political party or coalition of parties that wins 272 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats has the right to form the government. The Bharatiya Janata Party had won 303 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections.

On the other hand, the largest opposition party, Congress, won 52 seats. The first phase of the seven phases of Indian elections has been held on April 19. Voting will then be held on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. The results of the election will be announced three days after the last phase of the election. The Election Commission of India will announce the election results on June 4. Electronic machines are also used for polling. These machines were first used in elections in 1982. The use of these machines has increased tremendously over the past two decades. Now it is to be seen whether the BJP will take the field this time or Congress will give a surprise.
