Blocking more than 150,000 Non-Filer SIM cards according to FBR
On Friday 7th of June 2024 to safeguard tax compliance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) banned (150,000) SIM cards belonging to inconsistent taxpayers. According to details, the FBR attested to the blocking of (150,000) Non-Filer SIM cards, and it regularly provides the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with data related to (5,000) Non-Filers. After filing their returns for income taxes, the Non-Filers can have their SIM cards back, according to the representative. The representative also said, “As of right now, (18,902) SIM cards have been restored after the persons paid their taxes as well as were added to the list of currently active taxpayers.”

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) official had earlier rejected charges that taxpayers’ SIM cards are being blocked, saying that there is no mechanism in place to support such a measure, hence there is no reality to the reports. It is important to note that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed officials to disable the SIM cards of over (506,671) verified taxpayers who are not compliant nationwide in an income tax general order. The information shows that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) found over (506,671) people who were not on the FBR Active Taxpayer List but were still qualified to file income tax returns.
These people haven’t paid their taxes, even though they should have,” a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) representative said. If taxpayers refuse to complete their returns, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has threatened to deactivate their SIM cards, and it has started taking action against inconsistent taxpayers. When taxpayers fail to complete their tax returns, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will disable their SIM card. The FBR has taken strong action against taxpayers who have failed to fulfill their commitments and warned them of the effects.
