At least 27 killed as Quetta bound bus plunges into ditch

On Wednesday, 29th of May 2024, a bus flipped and dropped into a ditch in Washuk, Balochistan, killing more than 27 passengers, according to confirming authorities. According to authorities, the accident was caused by excessive speed, and women as well as children were killed. The tragic bus was heading from Turbat to Quetta. Immediately following the event, rescue workers arrived on the scene and transported the dead and injured to the Basima Civil Hospital. According to rescue authorities, the dead toll from the Washuk bus disaster might grow higher because the bulk of the wounded were in severe condition.

On the other side, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif showed great sorrow and sadness over the horrific road tragedy in Balochistan’s Washuk area. “We support those who have lost loved ones at this sad period,” he added in a statement. The PM of Shehbaz Sharif also demanded that anyone injured in the accident get the best possible medical care. The same tragedy occurred on the 21st of May when a bus slipped down a deep ravine in Diamer, a city in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, killing roughly 20 people and injuring 21 more. At the same time, the collision took place on the Karakoram Highway in Diamer’s Yashukhaldas region. The bus was on its way to Hunza from Rawalpindi when it dropped into a canyon after the driver lost control. The bus was transporting over 35 people to Hunza.
