A Strong Heated Debate was Held Between Pakistan and Israel at the UNSC

On Thursday, Pakistan appeared at the United Nations Security Council meeting, where it engaged in a heated debate with Israel over its attack on Doha, targeting Hamas leaders.
Exchange of talk between the Pakistan and Israeli Ambassadors:
An emergency session was convened regarding the situation in the Middle East. Pakistan, Algeria, and Somalia are the main proponents of calling out the UNSC meeting. France and the UK also supported the meeting.
Pakistan’s Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed talked in the meeting and clearly said that Israel’s actions are brutal and could never be accepted at any cost. He condemned Israel’s violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and called Israel a brazen and illegal assault on Qatar.
He said, “The brazen and illegal assault is not an isolated incident; rather, it is part of a broader and consistent pattern of aggression and violation of international law by Israel that undermines regional peace and stability. Israeli strikes targeted a residential neighbourhood, deliberately endangering civilians, and thus, also constitute a grave breach of the International Humanitarian Law.”
He also said that Qatar was playing a mediator role in de-escalating the tension between Israel and Gaza. He called out Israel’s attack on Qatar as a direct attempt to curb diplomacy.
He said, “Striking the territory of a principal mediator and those directly involved in negotiations is a deliberate attempt to sabotage diplomacy, derail peace efforts, and prolong the suffering of civilians.”
Asim Iftikhar clearly showed Pakistan’s unwavering support with Qatar. He said Pakistan stands by with Qatar to protect the security and sovereignty of the Gulf nation. He said, “The visit underscores Pakistan’s unwavering support for the security and sovereignty of Qatar and its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.”
He also highlighted that Israel violated Article 2(4) of the UN charter. According to this article, no nation is allowed to use force or threat against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
Ahmad thus condemned the Israeli attack in Doha. He highlighted the importance of the need of de-escalating the tension and also clarified Pakistan’s stance on Israel’s assault on Qatar.
On the contrary, Israel’s ambassador addressed the UNSC by invoking the US raid that killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. He mentioned the US raid just to justify its attack on Qatar.
He said, “When bin Laden was eliminated in Pakistan, the question asked was not why target a terrorist on foreign soil. The question was, why was a terrorist given shelter at all? The same question must be asked today. There’s no immunity for bin Laden, and there can be no immunity for Hamas.”
Pakistan immediately responded to the allegation and said that Israel has tried to divert attention from its illegal actions and the violation of International laws. Ahmed said, “Israel is an occupier, a serial violator of the UN Charter and international law, that threatens the international community, humanitarian organisations, and even the United Nations itself, and does so with impunity. Despite being the aggressor, it pretends to be the victim. But today, it stands fully exposed.”
He also stressed that Pakistan has always counter-terror attacks on the frontline. He said, “The international community is well aware of Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. Al Qaeda was largely decimated due to Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, and we remain committed to this collective endeavor.”
After Pakistan’s response, the Israeli Ambassador again alleged and called out Pakistan and other countries for applying double standards. He said, “Maybe he was offended by my words, and I apologise for that, but I make sure my speeches stick to facts. And the fact is, Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, and no one condemned the US for that. When other countries attack terrorists, no one condemns them either.”
He also added, “You cannot change the fact that 9/11 happened, and you cannot change the fact that Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan and was killed on your territory. When you criticise us, I’m sure you will continue to think about the standards you apply to your country and the standards you apply to Israel.”
