WASHINGTON: In a rare move, the US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth called out all US generals from all across the world in Quantico, Virginia. Officials gave this information to Reuters.

Uncertainty among attendees:

Hegseth has issued orders and conveyed the US generals from all across the world. Two senior officials revealed that the abrupt call for a high-level military meeting has caused widespread uncertainty.

Many of the expected attendees are top commanders who oversee thousands of troops. These leaders usually plan their schedules for weeks, but the sudden announcement has disrupted everything. An anonymous US official said, “People are scrambling to change their plans and see if they have to attend.”

Pentagon’s response to the rare gathering of senior officials:

It is still unclear how many officers will actually attend, but officials noted that it is unusual to have so many top military leaders in the same room at once. Such gatherings are typically planned with significant notice, given the scale of responsibility these leaders carry at home and abroad.

When asked about the purpose of the event, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell kept his response short: “The Secretary of War will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week.”Parnell’s office did not provide details about the number of officers, the agenda, or the reason for the sudden call. Trump has ordered the Pentagon to officially rename itself the Department of War, a change that still requires approval from Congress.

White House plays down concerns:

At the White House, US Vice President J.D. Vance attempted to calm speculation, saying the meeting was “not unusual at all.” However, many observers remain skeptical. The lack of transparency about the timing and purpose has only fueled more questions.

Global command responsibilities:

The US military has forces stationed across the globe, including South Korea, Japan, and multiple countries in the Middle East. These deployments are overseen by two, three, and four-star generals and admirals, who would likely be expected at such a gathering. Another official remarked, “It’s probably more mundane than people think, but the lack of clarity isn’t helping.”
