UN Security Council demands Gaza ceasefire : US Abstains
The UNSC (United Nations Security Council) proposes an immediate ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian organization Hamas in the territory known as Gaza, and it also demands the release of all prisoners, as the United States refrains from participation.
The other fourteen council members voted in favor of the resolution, which the council’s ten elected members had put forward. There was a burst of cheers in the city council chamber shortly after the Monday vote.
The resolution demands an instantaneous ceasefire until the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which ends in the span of two weeks, as well as the immediate release of all prisoners arrested in the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7.

The resolution’s proponent and current member of the Arab bloc’s United Nations Security Council, Amar Bendjama, the ambassador to the United States of Algeria, stated, “The bloodbath has continued for far too long.” “Ultimately, the Security Council is taking responsibility for its decisions.”

“We requested to add an allegation of Hamas, but some important updates were ignored,” Thomas-Greenfield reported. She highlighted that more food and other necessities would be sent into the attacked coastal region as a result of the release of Israeli prisoners.
