OSLO: Donald Trump may face hindrance in winning the Nobel Peace Prize next month. However, Trump is desperate to win the prize.

Trump’s desperate wish to win the Nobel Prize:

Since Trump took the oath of office, he has been seen as excited and desperate to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He already made it public and clearly stated that he wants to win the prestigious accolade.

Barack Obama, his democratic rival, after taking the oath in 2009, also won the prize. However, his win was a surprise for so many people. Trump has never missed opportunities to be declared as the leader meant to promote peace in the region.

He has always shown his interest in achieving the prize and has always made sure that the countries also nominate him for the prize. Even during the Pak-India war, Trump was seen as the main proponent, playing the role of mediator, and was also declared a peace-maker by the Pakistan Army.

In an interview in Oslo, Kristian Berg Harpviken said, “Of course, we do notice that there is a lot of media attention towards particular candidates. But that really has no impact on the discussions that are going on in the committee. The committee considers each nominee on their own merits.”

Many countries back up Trump’s nomination:

On October 10, the name of the peace-maker of the year will be announced. Trump, while talking about the Nobel Prize-winning, said that he deserves to win the prize. He, however, backed up his claim by saying that many countries have nominated him for the prize, or they have shown support in his nomination.

Harpviken said, “To be nominated is not necessarily a great achievement. The great achievement is to become a laureate. You know, the list of individuals who can be nominated is quite long.”

Parliament members, ministers from every country in the world, former laureates, and some university professors are eligible for nomination for the Nobel Prize. Among the list of 338 nominees, the committee will pick the winner for this year.

Harpviken, who assists or guides the committee in decision-making, said, “When the committee discusses, it’s that knowledge base that frames the discussion. It’s not what the media reports have received the most attention for in the last 24 hours. We are very aware that every year there are a number of campaigns, and we do our utmost to structure the process and the meetings in such a way that any campaign does not unduly influence us.”

According to the sources, Trump has discussed the Nobel Prize with Norway’s Finance Minister. The Norwegian minister confirmed the telephonic call with Trump, but did not confirm that they discussed the nominations or the Nobel Prize-winning.
