PTI Senators Resign From Standing Committees

On Thursday, four PTI Senators, including Dost Muhammad, Zeeshan Khanzada, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, and Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, submitted their resignations, following the orders of their leader, Imran Khan.
PTI Lawmakers’ resignations:
Earlier, PTI claimed that 30 lawmakers have resigned from their seats in the National Assembly. However, the National Assembly Secretariat confirmed that it only received the 20 resignations from PTI.
The resignations clearly showed that the decision of these senators to resign from their seats was voluntary. They have decided on the orders of Imran Khan.
The members have resigned to show that no more democracy is left in the country. Moreover, the incarceration of Imran Khan is based on fraudulent, inaccurate information.
Since August 2023, Imran Khan has been in prison due to many cases that have been imposed on him. Swati wrote in a letter, “I can no longer in good conscience serve on Senate committees when the state is the foremost violator of the very rights and protections these committees are meant to safeguard.”
He also said that the disqualification of PTI lawmakers is an attempt to suppress the democratic voices in the country. He said that the authorities are systematically dismantling the judiciary and basic human rights.
He pointed out that the process of impurity starts when their assigned PTI symbol- the Bat- was snatched. He also said that “breakdown began with a deeply flawed judgment authored by Justice Qazi Faez Isa.”
Swati said, “This resignation is an act of protest not just on behalf of my party, but to faithfully follow the decision of my party leader Imran Khan, the Law of this great country, and the Constitution of Pakistan, which today stands orphaned, dishonoured, and ignored. He urged parliamentarians, jurists, and citizens to speak up “before the space for dissent is completely extinguished.”
Khanzada and Dost Muhammad also wrote in their letters, “The deliberate denial of Justice has compelled both him and me to take this step as an expression of protest.”
Overall, the decision was made to protest against the ECP that disqualified a large number of PTI lawmakers and held Imran responsible for the May 9 riots.
