KATHMANDU: Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli disappeared after he was forced to step down in front of the furious protestors who set fire to the Parliament and the Supreme Court buildings.

Demonstration forced Oli to resign:

The protests came out as a result of the ban on social media. The protestors, mainly young people, attacked the buildings of the Parliament and the Apex court. To halt the protestors, the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at them. Moreover, Oli’s government also lifted the ban due to the severity of the protest.

One hundred people were injured, while 19 lost their lives during the protest. The protest organisers declared that Gen Z led the protest. The young protestors said that due to the lack of action to tackle corruption and boost economic opportunities, they are protesting.

Oli resigned from his office and wrote in his resignation letter to the President, “In view of the adverse situation in the country, I have resigned effective today to facilitate the solution to the problem and to help resolve it politically in accordance with the constitution.”

The President has received the resignation letter of Oli. According to the sources, the President had begun the search for the new Premier and also called out the protest leaders for negotiations.

The president also ordered the authorities to take the protest seriously and not allow further violation or the destruction of private, public, or state properties. He told “all parties to exercise restraint, to not allow further damage.”

The Army Chief also pleaded with the protestors to stop spreading unrest in the country. In his video message, he called out the protestors for a smooth negotiation deal. He also requested to avoid damaging the properties and further loss of lives.

Global leaders showed concern for Nepal:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also echoed the same words. He said, “Stability, peace, and prosperity of Nepal are of utmost importance to us.” Modi showed his full support for Nepal in its tough time.

The United Nations Rights Chief also called for the peace deal in Nepal. He also showed his concerns over the violence. The ex-Nepalian Premier also called out all political parties. He said that violence destroys the peace of the region, and it will not be good for the global image of the country.

He also called out for a peace deal. However, he did not directly answer the complaints of the corruption made against him by the protestors.

Protestors thus did not listen to the appeals. Though they burnt the tyres on the roads, and threw stones at the police. In addition, people also saw that the demonstrators set fire to the houses of the politicians in Kathmandu.

According to the local media, some politicians are rescued from their houses using military helicopters. The protestors also set fire to Oli’s house after he went missing. The Prime Minister’s house, Parliament House, and Oli’s private residence were also set on fire by the protestors.

Footage is also viral on social media, in which it is clearly seen that the ministries, including the former Prime Minister, his wife, the foreign minister, and the finance minister, are attacked by the demonstrators.
