On Friday morning, the terrorists opened fire on the Karakoram Highway checkpoint, leading to the martyrdom of a Subedar and a Sergeant of Gilgit Baltistan Scouts, with the injuries of a soldier.

Briefing about the attack in Diamer:

GB Scouts are a federal paramilitary force. They are responsible for maintaining the internal security of the region and for protecting the borders. The GB border is very crucial as multiple times terrorists had tried to damage the peace of the region, but fortunately, these GB Scouts fought and did not allow them to be successful in their missions.

Senior Superintendent of Police Diamer, Abdul Hameed, told the reporters that the terrorists attacked on the Karakoram Highway at 12:15 on Friday morning. He said, “Unknown armed men fired at the checkpoint from an elevated hilltop position, injuring three scout personnel, two of whom succumbed to their injuries later. A total of nine people were present at the checkpoint when the attack took place.”

He also gave information about the deceased and the injured soldiers during the war. He said Naib Subedar Khush Dad and Havaldar Ashraf were martyred, while Lance Naik Sajid Ali got injuries, and he is under examination.

He added, “The police, led by the deputy inspector general and the district police officer, responded immediately and visited the incident site within the next 15-20 minutes, travelling there from Chilas.” He also said that the injured were taken to the Regional Headquarters Hospital in Chilas.

Investigation of the attack:

The police investigated the incident site. However, it could not arrest the terrorists. The police recovered two grenades and 10 spent shells from the site of firing at the hillstop. Moreover, police also found 17 bullet holes at the checkpoint.

SSP Hameed informed that the Elite Force and additional police were sent to the site to investigate the matter and chase the terrorists. He said, “The police have started carrying out raids to arrest the culprits and have raided many areas.”

He also said that no one had taken responsibility for the attack so far. Gilgit Baltistan Interior Minister Shamsul Haq Lone said in a statement that the terrorists target this site in the darkness of night.

He said, “Immediately after the attack, a large contingent of security forces reached the spot and sealed the area and expanded the search operation to pursue the terrorists. There had been no prior intelligence regarding the attack.”

He also added, “The GB government would pursue the terrorists and bring them to their ultimate fate.” The GB government spokesperson said that the Chief Minister has taken strict action on the tragic incidents and ordered the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
