On Thursday 22nd of August 2025, following the deaths of (2) brothers by electrocution during intense rains, Shah Faisal Colony police filed a complaint against K-Electric CEO Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi and other authorities.

Israr Khan and his younger brother Siraj Khan were killed, the family said, after they came into contact with a live underground K-Electric wire outside their home. The road was flooded, and both died suddenly. The family of the victim has demanded serious legal action, implying K-Electric officials of incompetence.

On Wednesday, Karachi was hit by torrential rains for the second day in a row, which resulted in a landslide near Kati Pahari, road closures, urban flooding, and extended power outages.

Traffic movement was seriously disrupted when rainwater flooded important main roads like “Sultanabad, II Chundrigar Road, and Korangi Industrial Area Road”. Roads in Surjani Town were still under water, so rescue crews had to utilize boats to take a patient to the hospital. Large portions of the city were left in complete darkness, and power was cut out for up to 36 hours in some places.

After more than a day and a half without power, residents of “Nazimabad Block B” protested and demanded that K-Electric immediately restore their supply. In many places, the extended power loss also led to a serious water deficit.

Due to overflowing sewers, Korangi Industrial Area Road’s two tracks have been repaired alongside Korangi Causeway, according to Karachi Traffic Police. Following significant water buildup, the “Shaheed-e-Millat, Drigh Road, Nazimabad Nos. 1 and 2 underpasses as well as the Sohrab Goth underpass were closed”. Authorities advised commuters to choose other routes.
