Rainfall is expected to be much more than usual in a number of Punjabi districts. Specifically, “Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Gujrat may have 40% to 60% higher rainfall than usual during the pre-monsoon season”.
Based on meteorologists, during these storms, certain places may see intense downpours coupled with high winds, which might cause low-lying areas to build up water and cities to flood.
40% To 60% Higher Rainfall
In prediction of (25%) more monsoon rainfall than usual this year, PDMA Punjab released important guidelines and started widespread awareness programs throughout the province. In a communication to all Commissioners and District Administrations, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that (40% to 60%) higher rainfall than normal is anticipated in (Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Rawalpindi).
The DG underlined the significance of early public education about possible risk of flooding during the rainy season in rural as well as urban locations.
Awareness Campaign
In order to reach this, notifications will be made through mosques in communities close to “rivers and nullahs, along with the posting of banners, streamers, and brochures” to make sure that every possible precaution is taken. The management of PDMA has been directed to use District Information Officers to carry out a comprehensive awareness campaign on “print, electronic, and social media”. Whereas the public will also hear the Punjab Chief Minister’s message, which will remind them that the government has made all necessary preparations to handle any future floods and would guarantee the security of the people there and their animals.
